First proposal for SGML - 1986 27 of 29
SGML (standard generalised mark-up language, intended originally for the production of printed documents) was specified by ISO Working Group 3v1 under the chairmanship of Charles Goldfarb.
The group then extended the SGML language to cover other areas. There was SMDL (Standard Music Description Language, Eric Foxley attended some meetings of X3v1.8M) and "HyTime" (a language for multi-media shows). The language for WWW pages, HTML, is also based on SGML.
